Description

Take your textile art and creativity to the next level with this monk's cloth fabric. Made from 100% premium cotton, it features a loose and even weave that easily allows the punch needle to pass easily, while holding your loops securely for a perfect finish.

It’s ideal for punch needle enthusiasts and rug makers who prefer the perfect balance of flexibility and strength.

  • 100% Premium Cotton - The monks fabric is soft, durable, and provides a reliable, sustainable canvas that gives your handmade rugs and textiles a high-end, professional feel.

  • Built-In 2-Inch Grid Lines - Consists of woven white guide lines every 2 inches, allowing you to perfectly align, stretch, frame, and execute your designs with precision.

  • 14X14 Holes Per Inch - This monks cloth with 14x14 weave density ensures clean, uniform punch needle designs, every time.

  • Multi-Craft Versatility: Designed to withstand the tension of traditional punch needles, heavy-duty rug punch machines, and tufting guns, while remaining gentle enough for delicate needlework, cross-stitching, and weaving.

  • Ideal for Backdrops: Features a natural cotton finish suitable for flat lays and displays to add visual depth.

  • Self-Healing Weave: Made with a high-quality structure—if you make a mistake or punch the wrong spot, the fabric fibers easily shift back into place so you can fix errors seamlessly.

  • Tailored for Any Project Scale: With a generous 60-inch width, it is available in highly flexible lengths ranging from a ½ -yard fabric for small crafts up to a bulk 25-yard roll for serious makers and art teachers.

  • Easy to Work & Finish: It cuts cleanly to size and irons out seamlessly, making it the perfect start for custom home decor such as throw pillows, cushions, purses, or wall hangings.

FAQs
  1. What is monks cloth?

Monk's cloth is a soft, cotton fabric with a loose, even basketweave. It typically features woven contrast lines (usually every 2 inches) to help crafters align their designs.

2. What is monks cloth used for?

Since it features a loose weave that allows thick needles to pass through, it is perfect to be used as the foundation fabric for punch needle embroidery, rug hooking, and tufting. It is also used for Swedish weaving (huck weaving), heavy-weight cross-stitch, and crafting cozy home items such as throw blankets, pillows, and tote bags.

3. How to keep monks cloth from fraying?

Monks fabric frays easily once cut due to its loose weave. You can avoid it by:

  • Securing the edges with a quick zigzag stitch or serger using a sewing machine.
  • Applying a thin layer of fabric glue or liquid fray-check along the raw edges.
  • Wrapping masking tape or painter's tape tightly around the cut borders before you start crafting.

4. How to stretch monks cloth?

Stretch the monks cloth “drum-tight” to keep loops from falling out. Place your fabric over a non-slip embroidery hoop, Q-snap frame, or a wooden rug-hooking frame equipped with gripper strips. Pull the fabric evenly from opposite sides (top and bottom, then left and right) until the woven grid lines are perfectly straight and the surface sounds like a drum when tapped.

5. How to wash monks cloth?

Monks cloth shrinks 10–15%. If you want to wash the final item, secure the raw edges to prevent fraying, pre-wash on a gentle cycle, and tumble dry low. For completed punch-needle projects, spot-clean or hand wash in cold water and lay flat to dry to protect the yarn loops.
